its only early july, but 2013 has already proven to be a landmark year for production/dj duo deepa & biri. with a couple of their tracks being released on transmat records and appearing on derrick mays mix compilations on the one hand, while on the other, getting signed to dj hells international dj gigolo records, where they released a single in april and have a full album forthcoming mid-september it seems that all corners of the techno diaspora are ready to catch up on their sound.

first up is dankles *isabigting*. dankle has been steadily making a name for himself over the past couple of years, as part of offmenut records, for his solo production and as one half of phatworld, alongside tich from the squire of gothos. *isabigting* is straight up mutant bassline, with his warped, glass-like bass and hip-hop vocal.

ludovic llorca aka art of tones is a composer who spent his youth in the north of france, learning music-making with computers (commodore 64 and amiga). after releasing a couple of techno/house 12 inches on small labels, he signed an artist contract (using his family name as a moniker) with french label f-communications on 1997, releasing three eps, followed by a lp (newcomer) on 2001. the albums huge success (more than 170.000 copies sold) leads him to stages around the world, touring for more than 3 years with musicians and singers, performing live in famous festivals (montreux, nice, vienne, den haag, les vieilles charrues) and in prestigious venues.

lphs second release of the spring is also the nyc labels second split 12inch. but instead of featuring a couple of sun-soaked l.a.-based outfits as with cosmic kids and fingerpaints reality on the horizon ep, label heads nik mercer, jacques renault, and james friedman set out to sweden to grab three tracks by m.d.c. (otherwise known as muslim disco club) and name in lights, plus a remix by studio barnhus kornel kovacs.

a friend of ours wrote a magazine article a couple of years ago saying that the one good thing about the credit crunch was that it would give the warehouse party scene a boost. for some reason that hasnt quite happened yet - but we refuse to give up hope.

currently two of the busiest men in contemporary deep house, alex agore and james johnston have still found the time to establish their joint no matter what recordings as a potent outlet. this sixth release sees johnston at the buttons for sole control after a couple of split releases and the consumer ep demonstrates a further refinement of his own distinct brand of house music. arriving on transparent vinyl, lead track give him prozac sets the tone with a thick four note synth lead that accrues all manner of dreamlike analogue qualities as it progresses backed by those crisp rolling rhythms johnston is known for. columbo likes the nightlife takes things on a notably deeper path, all dubby chords and intricate skipping percussive touches augmented by epic sweeping textures, whilst face down and they had cocktails maintains the same feel if upping the pace somewhat. johnston ends strongly with the sublime analogue build of the sleepwalker.

andhim have been on a steady run upwards in the last couple years, and a sprint in the past few months. playing high profile venues and festivals right next to the veterans of the scene, the duo are now keen to make their get physical debut with the wizard of us ep.

the new year reveals a couple of surprises on stil vor talent. among others, we are venturing into the stormy waters of indie-pop with svt096 >keine sterne< by noerd, the labels next extraordinary band project.

it has been a memorable year for the luv shack. release after release, props after props, watching the guys build on a solid foundations and take it up a notch each time. if you listen to their first release (again), and then this new release, you will see just how far they have travelled in such a small time frame. and yes, it started with a couple of mini compilations and eps to see what the reaction would be. the reaction was good, actually no, the reaction was great, the right jocks took to the guys and the early eps and hence since, the luv shack posse have been locked up in a studio ever since. they have been productive, and more to the point, excelling in that production. it is going to be a brilliant 2013.

razor rekta has proved to be a serious addition to the chestplate team, bringing a new dimension with his unruly, dread-inducing signature sound. the london-based producer has a hefty collection of fresh dubplates ready to cause damage, and a couple of killer beats were dropped on his debut chestplate record, >loko-motiv< and >development<. this december sees more heat-tempered firepower released on 12 inch, with the speaker stack-rupturing >bang ya door< on the a-side, and no-nonsense brute force of >kickstart< on the flip.

jack dice is a new project from john twells and walkmaster flex, now releasing their debut ep for modern love. john twells, amongst very many other things, runs the type label and has been producing music of various different disciplines and varieties over the last 15 years. although hes never released anything on modern love before, hes a long time friend and associate of the label. walker is the manager of main attrakionz and has been djing with them for the last couple of years as the official green ova dj. jack dice is fuelled by an interest in bass, twells being a car audio nerd and walker having an obsession with 90s southern rap music. these are their first tracks produced together, who know what might follow.

born in cape town, and now living in manchester, alex blaxx is 21 years-old. buzzin flys ben watt ran across his music in september 2012 after a tip-off on influential music blog fluxmusic.net and went on to preview one of the tracks on his bbc 6music 6mix residency a couple of nights later, it garnered the most texts and tweets for any track played that night.
the upshot is alexs debut three-track ep on buzzin fly. simple raw, deep house.

>blurry< runs at 133bpm allowing it to sit neatly between dubstep tempo and the increasingly popular 125-130 bpm bass / house scene that has been developing in the uk over the last couple of years. taking things down an ongy-bongy path, this rhythm provides the soundtrack to a hunter chasing his prey through a humid jungle landscape, with fast weaving beats charged heavy by the deadly subs. the heat is on.
>spearhead< sees roska making a rare 140bpm trip, taking this rhythmical excursion neatly into dubstep tempo territory, creating an original cut which sits in its own world of tribal grime. the bassline pounds heavy, eventually rising upward before suddenly plummeting back down to the murky depths from where it came, and back round again. dis-hyeer quality dubstep music produced pon the other side of the looking glass.

following on from the blistering neil diablo release, kat are back with a couple of edits of grand proportions by stem edit master, the reflex... already supported by dimitri from paris, crazy p, ron basejam...

here we find a couple of heavyweights facing off with one of the centre pieces of orgue electroniques acclaimed >strange paradise< album. on the one hand we have kink & neville watson (an unlikely pair blabla but you know all that) with a swooning but rather pressing epic that unexpectedly turns into a harmonious vortex. and once you have crossed its event horizon it proceeds to quite exquisitely tear you to shreads. marvel as you turn into jelly and watch your legs grow longer and longer in what not only seems like an eternity, but actually is cause umm technically, like, there aint no time in a black hole dude! code! speaking of which, if you ever do make it to the other side, you will find up n cummer willie burns (who is known to many as the brooklyn budgie smuggler) oldschool jacking the faders with two of the sikkest organic beat tracks north of the corpse of ron (who is in a dead heat with jimi, jim and james in the race for most desecrated musician in like 4evah). anyhow, these jamz come courtesy of the sp12. feel it feel it feel it feel it... boom knock out!

acid techno at its best. luis ruiz delivers an excellent nervous techno ep which is drenched with stabby sounds and great drum edits. peaktime action.

already on the decks for a couple of years and a established regular dj at schwarzes schaf (the black sheep) in augsburg (along with daniel bortz), dominik marz now also shows his talent as a sensitive and highly talented producer. after his resent debut on leipzigs infamous o*rs label the >shmoozen ep< is his first release on pastamusik. leon holstein provided production support during the studio sessions. the tracks stand out with relaxed and at the same evermore deeply moving tone. while it sounds so effortless and easy, each of these three pieces contains a great deal of high tension that gets its audience inevitably into the mood to swing. dominik is on his way to provide lessons in creating lascivious beats and enchanting atmospheres which make us wait for his next emotional strikes

catching the last rays of summer! here comes a sun drenched piece of music from tobias linden & riccardo rizza, just in time for closing parties all over. the boys hung out in tobias stockholm studio after a gig together and in a couple of days the song came about. writing was like one fluid motion they say, listen and we think you will feel the energy flow effortlessly quality sunshine music!
